Bugging out?
Do any of you guys have contingency plans for getting out of the country if things get too bad? If so how would you do it and where would you go?
|
Re: Bugging out?
I'll be a bug-inner. No plans to leave the country.

Re: Bugging out?
Sure, give me an ocean going 150' yacht, fully loaded down with provisions, with a seasoned crew sans the chef, the one or two housekeepers and a deck hand or two (unless they have really useful skills or the housekeepers are a.] really cute and b.] put out in a big way). Then station yacht in Hawaii. At the first sign of trouble (rioting) assemble with the dozen family and friends at a prearranged airport, jump on a private jet and be on board the "Prepper" and under way to the Polynesian Islands in less then 12 hours.
No, give me two yachts that size and that is the property of the owners of the business I work for. (The family are the landlords of a Walmart, Sams, and a mess of other properties, just from the Wally and Sams I figure they're pulling in $100K a day. Where I work they've got "Fredo" of the family "running" it. I was talking to him a couple weeks ago about what's but he's said "If this is all true where do you go?" Sometimes money is wasted on the stupid. (I swear, if somebody in that family doesn't have a 20x20 room filled with bags of silver coin and I mean FILLED with a big ass footlocker filled with gold coins and a bathroom sized area full of currency and have a farm or two fully prepped then they don't deserve the money they got. Sorry for the rant.) |

Re: Bugging out?
Why don't you prepare to leave now. I started preparing months ago, at least mentally.Look for an expat job overseas, save some money, and look for property where you want to lay your head for good while overseas . I'm moving in January, finalizing thing as I type. Relocation company is shopping my goods in container,I'll pick it up in Asia in 6 to 8 weeks. I'm in Asia right now in fact. I don't know where to tell you to go, but I would follow the money. it's gonna be bad everywhere. Jim Rogers fled to Asia , I followed him. I'm making the best best decision with the knowledge I have at the moment. If I get new information, I'll act on it.

I sold the last of my US property 2 years ago before the collapse and sold all my US stocks last year and and only hold Hong Kong stocks, and while they have taken a pounding,I am not worried about them for the future. This volatile environment is great for forex with the wild currency swings and have netted several $1000 days this month. I can live and trade anywhere in the world so I just surf every day and trade every night.I split my tiime between NYC,Hawaii,Thailand where one friend has a house, and soon will be hitting the Philippines as a scuba diving friend has a house there. I have a US mailing address and US bank and brokerage accounts and can withdraw my money at any ATM around the world. |
Re: Bugging out?
Fermentation and goldbugger you got it made. I have a sixteen year old son in high school here and he does not want to leave unless it gets bad. Also I have to work 7 more years to get my defined benefit pension plan at age 55 years. I know I can't count on it being worth anything but I have worked so long to get so screwed by this fiat scam of a lifetime!!!I guess I'm stuck for now....do have preps and liquidity. I was wondering how one might go about getting out once things get bad and there's no reason left to stay...raft to Canada???

http://www.escapeartist.com/ http://www.retire-asia.com/ these are two great websites i learned a lot from.i looked into canada and a us citizen can live 6 months out of a year there with no visa but canada is really just an extension of the us and whatever happens in the us will affect canada more directly than any other country. the cost of living for us or other developed nations citizens in se asia is fantastic.the condo i rented in waikiki was $1500 a month and the same condo in thailand was $300 a month.one can live like a king with only $1000 a month there.food is much cheaper, american cigs are $15 a carton, kfc's and 7/11s on every block, etc. and for those who don't have girlfriends there, one can spend all night with a beautiful woman for $20.it's paradise for single men. parts of thailand look like the west with retired westerners and foreign tourists outnumbering thais in the streets and neighborhoods.for anyone who is near retirement and on a fixed pension their retirement dollars will go much further there. |
Re: Bugging out?
Sure, provide me with a 100 acre farm and I will be happy to bug out to it. In the meantime I will sit here and suffer with the rest of us have-nots.

Re: Bugging out?
No plan to leave the state of Ohio, if that's what you are asking. Too old, unsure of how many days I've left anyway. If I have to go down may just as well go down right where I'm at. If that means going down fighting, well I'm no stranger to war.

Re: Bugging out?
Maybe kanada will follow in the steps of the USA in many ways. I have no faith in my current PM Steveo Harper, but there is one thing we DO have and thats land. Remember, you can hop in your car here, drive 22 hours and still not be out of the province. In the north of Ontario we have polar bears, in the south we have peach trees and vinyards . . one province and it's not even the biggest. There's almost 2 Alaska's in Ontario and Quebec alone.
With a population density of 1/15th that of the USA, there's plenty of space and places to bug out. Eventually my plan... |
